
Huge copper beech to come down in Fairfax VA.
This huge copper beech tree, on the property of a church on Rt 236 in
Fairfax, VA, was damaged by a storm recently and will, sadly, have to
come down completely as a matter of general safety (the photo shows
it prior to damage). The church is planning to make some of this wood
available to turners from local groups -- Capitol Area, Chesapeake,
etc. -- with the proviso that those who take wood produce at least
one item for the church to sell at auction to help recover its
expenses in having the tree brought down by professionals.
At present (May 22) the church is reviewing bids for the work of
downing the tree, and plans have this done as soon as possible,
presumably within the next six weeks. They will us as well informed
as they can on the prospective schedule, and as soon as they let me
know what the plans are, I will post them here and by general e-mail.
